Who We Are
The Diocese of Chingleput was erected as an independent diocese on 19 July 2002, with Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan appointed as its first Bishop. Its territory embraces the entire civil districts of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram, together with a portion of the district of Chennai.
Today the diocese is home to 107 parishes and three independent shrines, organised into eleven vicariates. About 80% of the parishes are rural, reflecting the diocese's deep commitment to village communities. 146 diocesan priests, 70 religious priests, and 72 religious congregations serve the faithful across the diocese.
