An Independent Diocese
On 19 July 2002, the Diocese of Chingleput was declared an independent diocese, and Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan was appointed as its first Bishop. The new diocese was entrusted with the entire civil districts of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram along with part of Chennai district.

Growth Since 2002
[Demo content] In the years since its foundation, the diocese has grown to 107 parishes and three independent shrines across eleven vicariates, with a strong presence in rural communities — about 80% of parishes serve villages. Education and social development have been central works, through diocesan schools, colleges, technical institutes, and the pastoral centre.
